Springfield
One of my favorite past times, I’ve spent days wandering the historic neighborhood of Springfield. Nestled beyond the downtown area of Jacksonville, Florida, is an area that feels almost frozen in time. Originally established in 1869, Springfield is home to which are now considered historic homes ,which display beautiful architectural designs such as Victorian style homes. It is now the intersection between the growing upper middle class, and the forgotten lower class, whose families have claimed residency there for generations. Where historic buildings now confront new developments that try to match the aesthetic of older architectural styles as well as replace them with more modern homes. This is one of the many prime examples of gentrification in America, where families who have lived their entire lives in a place, now face relocation because of increased living costs and eviction due to direct displacement. With the complicated shift of history in this neighborhood, I’ve managed to encapsulate the beauty of the original historic homes as well as the new developments matching those older architecture designs.
